What's New: Addventure 2.2
Verion 2.2.0
Version 2.2 adds several new features to Addventure and changes some
internal structures from Version 2.0 and 2.1.
Version 2.0 and 2.1 files are fully
compatable with version 2.2, but the converse is not necessarily true.
Incompatabilities are noted.
- Security and Authentication
- For some games, certainly not all, we will be able to allow
a specific list of authors. This allows several things
- Allows anyone to read a game, but only authors to write and
expand.
- Uses will be able to set some defaults, such as default signature
- Guides
- Guides will allow for additional programs to work with Addventure
to provide features. Most importantly
- The ability to locate, and direct the player, to specific
episodes or episodes they may be more interested in
- Improved email system
- Some internal changes:
- Sanity checks to help make sure email addresses make sense
- Improved mailng method to make a system administrators life easier
- "What were we writing about"
- Two features to help remind you what you were writing:
- When entering the text, you will see the option you selected that
brought you to this ${RoomW}
- When entering the option, you will see the text that you just entered
- Enforce a maximum number of options
- Some authors try to be rude and create episodes with too many
options. Prevent this.
- Easier way to start the game over
- Provide links from (each page and) the created and new ${RoomW}
pages to the beginning of the game.
- Administrator defined screens
- Allows administrators to create their own error message screens,
room creation screens, etc. without recompiling.
- Reduce disk space usage
- Addventure takes up a large ammount of space with episodes that
have yet to be created. Version 2.1 reduces this by using the
REFERER feature that most browsers conform to.
